Frequently asked questions

General Questions

Is Shibari safe?

Yes, when practiced correctly! It requires knowledge of anatomy, proper technique, awareness and clear communication to avoid risks like nerve damage.

Do I need to be fit/flexible?

Beginner Shibari is accessible to most, but advanced work (suspension) requires a higher degree of flexibility, core strength, and pain management skills.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothes (yoga/gym gear). Avoid bulky clothing to prevent uncomfortable pressure points. Lingerie during one-on-one sessions are okay, but ensure all genitals are covered unless otherwise noted.

One-one-One Session

What does a private session look like?

Can I just get tied without learning?

Yes. Private sessions can be focused on receiving, exploration, and/or receiving a high-level performance tie.

Can i bring my partner to get tied together?

Yes, of course you can. you can bring somebody to your private 1:1 session if that makes you feel more comfortable. I will not however tie this person and make them part of the session. If you prefer to be tied together, this can be booked as a duo session.

Do I need to bring my own ropes?

Is this for me?

Yes, participants of different levels are welcome, and everyone is encouraged to learn at a comfortable pace while building confidence and understanding step by step. Wether you choose to attend a group workshop, or the comfort of a a private custom workshop, all are designed to  focus on connection, intimacy, and personal expression, for all genders, body types and relationship statuses.

Is this a sexual event?

No. Workshops are educational spaces focused on technique and connection, not BDSM sex scenes.

Do i need a partner?

For the workshops yes. However, you and your partner don't have to have a romantic connection. Many people bring a friend who's equally interested in learning shibari in a respectful environment.

We are currently developing workshops for people who don't have a person to tie with, to create a community where people can meet likeminded and explore shibari together.

What to expect?

My performances  are an artistic expression, telling  a story about tension, surrender, control, and vulnerability. I treat my performance as a living, moving art rather than just static bondage.

Whether it's with live music, video images or with ikebana elements, the main focus will be on the aesthetic and emotional connection, often featuring complex suspension work.

Can I take photos during a show?

No. While some performances and demo's are public, photographing or recording is usually forbidden without strict consent from the performers, as it is a deeply personal, often vulnerable display.

Is it about BDSM?

No. While shibari is often considered sensual and sometimes sexual, my performances are purely artistic and non-sexual. My attention goes to the visual and emotional aspect of the art form. Said that, some viewers might find it confronting to watch a performance as they can display intense and sometimes painful rope art.
